When your child's idea of summer plans is just to "hang out" and do nothing, here's what you can do:
  • Explain that what looks good now will probably turn out to be very boring by the time mid-summer rolls around.
  • Provide your child with some positive alternatives such as camp, teen trips, volunteer work or summer courses to study something creative and fun.
  • Ask your child to develop a workable, creative plan that would be appealing.
Remember: We all want to be better parents - but kids don't come with an instruction manual.
